Lievano and Vasiljevic Win at Region III Doubles Championship

LEXINGTON, Ky. - The Tulane University doubles team of senior Jorge Lievano (Bucaramanga, Columbia) and junior Goran Vasiljevic (Varmo, Switzerland) advanced to the round of 16 at the 2002 Omni Hotels Region III Indoor Championships at the University of Kentucky on Saturday.
In singles action, senior Victor Romero (Atizapan, Mexico) was eliminated in the round of 32 by Tennessee's Simon Rea, 6-2, 3-6, 3-6.
The Wave doubles team defeated Tennessee Tech's tandem of Luis Aguerrevere and Gernot Fischer, 8-5.
On Friday evening, Lievano and Vasiljevic opened doubles action with a win over Scott Brown and Josh Tarkoff from Vanderbilt, 9-8. In the Wave's other doubles match on Friday, senior Mattias Westerberg (Lulea, Sweden) and junior Hannu Piiroinen (Tampere, Finland) lost to Ben Birkmann and Christoph Mueller from Jacksonville.
Lievano and Vasiljevic will attempt to reach the quarterfinals on Sunday morning against an opponent still to be determined.
