Tulane Men's Tennis Opens Season With Victory

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - The Tulane University men's tennis team opened its 2003 campaign with an impressive 6-1 victory over No. 30 SMU on Friday evening at the University of Minnesota's Baseline Tennis Center.
Tulane, ranked No. 38 in the nation, won the doubles point, then swept all but two sets in singles action against its higher-ranked foe.
Making an impressive debut was freshman Dmitriy Koch, who clinched the match with a straight-set victory at No. 3 singles. Koch also teamed with Mattias Westerberg in doubles play to clinch the doubles point at No. 2 doubles.
Michael Kogan and Victor Romero, ranked No. 29 in the nation in doubles, defeated SMU's Eric Cohn and Gwinyai Chingoka, who are ranked No. 23.
Other singles winners for the Wave were Kogan, Romero, Westerberg and Goran Vasiljevic.
The Green Wave is back in action on Saturday evening at 6:30 p.m., battling host Minnesota.
