HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Tulane University cross country teams were in action Saturday at the 2002 Conference USA Championship at Van Hook Gold Course. The Wave women collected a 10th place finish, while the men finished 11th.
On the women's side, Marquette won with 29 points, with its five scorers finishing in the top 11 of the 102-runner race. South Florida was second with 48 points, while DePaul took third (103 points). Tulane tallied 279 points to finish above four other schools.
In the men's competition, Charlotte took the title with 53 points, followed by Marquette's 73 points. Cincinnati was third with 81 points. The Green Wave tallied 266 points.
The top finisher for the Green Wave women was junior Eva Lustigova (Liberec, Czech Republic), who covered the six-kilometer course in a time of 23:31.47 to finish 37th. Sophomore Megan Whelton (New Orleans, La.) placed 55th with a time of 24:03.84. The women's individual winner was Erin Moffet from DePaul, who posted a time of 20:54.68.
In the men's eight-kilometer race, Tulane led by senior Adam Leskis (Spokane, Wash.), who recorded a time of 26:32.29, to finish 39th. Leskis paced the Green wave men in every race this fall. He was followed by sophomore Joakim Daun (Klintehamn, Sweden) and junior Ryan Gallagher (New Orleans, La).
The individual winner on the men's side was South Florida's Andrew Smith, who recorded a time of 24:36.71.
