Tulane Track Teams in Seventh After Day One

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Tulane University men's and women's track teams both hold seventh place after day one of the Conference USA Indoor Track Championships on Friday.
The Tulane women hold seventh with 9.5 points, while the Wave men have 14 points. Marquette leads the women's side with 35.5 points, while Charlotte's men have 44.5 points to hold first place.
The top performance of the day for Tulane was the Wave's men's distance medley relay team, which took first place. Freshman Philip Aagaard, senior Alex Lakhanpal, freshman Erik Emilsson and senior Solomon Kandie teamed up to win the event in a time of 9:59.72. Adding four points for the Wave was junior Anthony Lagat, who took fifth in the 5,000-meter run.
The Green Wave women took second in the distance medley relay as Eva Lustigova, Tahira Wiggins, Sheena Garwood and Katrina Gemmell posted a time of 11:41.47. Tulane added 1.5 points as freshman Ellen Vollmers ties for seventh place in the pole vault, improving on her own school record with a vault of 10-00.
The mile run for the men and women will be the first running event of Saturday's action, starting at 12:30 p.m. The women's shot put will be at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. Freshman Helmi Leppanen is seeded at the top in the shot put, while Lustigova is rated fourth in the mile. Kandie has posted the second-best time in the league in the mile.
