NEW ORLEANS, La. - Tulane University senior Solomon Kandie (Nairobi, Kenya) was named the Conference USA Co-Athlete of the Week for Men's Track, the league announced Tuesday.
Kandie surpassed the NCAA Provisional qualifying time in the mile run on Friday at day one of the Tyson Invitational at the University of Arkansas. Kandie's time of 4:04.90 earned him a sixth-place finish at the meet, which featured many of the top programs and runners in the nation. The event was billed as a preview of the NCAA Indoor Championships, which will be held at the same track on March 8th and 9th.
Last year, Kandie collected All-America honors after finishing eighth place in the steeplechase at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. During this year's cross country campaign, Kandie was named the Louisiana Male Runner of the Year.
Kandie shared this week's honor with Brandal Lawrence from TCU, who posted a TCU indoor school record triple jump of 15.97 meters, at the Tyson Invitational.
Tulane's indoor track teams will be back in action on Sunday, competing at the Gator Invitational in Gainesville, Fla.
