No. 35 Tulane Holds Off No. 44 Florida Atlantic

NEW ORLEANS, La. - Tulane University held off Florida Atlantic University in a 4-3 victory in men's tennis action on Sunday morning at the Goldring Tennis Stadium.
Tulane, ranked No. 35 in the nation, has now won six of seven matches, improving to 9-2 on the year. It is the fifth win for the Wave over a ranked opponent.
The Green Wave opened the match by winning the doubles point. The No. 13 ranked duo of sophomore Michael Kogan (Kfar-Saba, Israel) and Victor Romero (Atizapan, Mexico) cruised to an 8-1 victory to remain undefeated in pairs play. Despite losing the second flight doubles match, sophomore Hannu Piiroinen (Tampere, Finland) and junior Jorge Lievano (Bucaramanga, Columbia) earned an 8-4 win at No. 3.
The Wave clinched the victory with wins at the top three singles flights. Kogan, ranked No. 14 in the country, bested FAU's Doug Devriendt, 6-1, 6-4, at No. 1. Junior Mattias Westerberg (Lulea, Sweden), who moved up to No. 2 due to a Romero injury in doubles, improved to a team-best 9-1 on the year with a dominating 6-1, 6-1 victory. Lievano won 6-2, 6-4 at third flight singles to wrap up the win for the Green Wave.
The Green Wave is in action next weekend at the Blue-Gray Classic beginning on Thursday.
