Fourth Straight Win for No. 35 Men's Tennis

NEW ORLEANS, La. - Tulane University opened action at the Blue-Gray Collegiate Classic with a 4-0 victory over No. 56 Fresno State on Thursday afternoon at Lagoon Park.
Tulane, ranked No. 35 in the nation, has now won seven of eight matches and four in a row, improving to 10-2 on the year. It is the sixth win for the Wave over a ranked opponent this year. Tulane battles No. 5 Illinois on Friday at 11 a.m. in second round action at the tournament.
The Wave won the doubles point with wins at the Nos. 1 and 2 flights. Ranked No. 13 in the nation, sophomore Michael Kogan (Kfar-Saba, Israel) and junior Victor Romero (Atizapan, Mexico) remained undefeated on the year with an 8-2 win over the No. 40 ranked pair in the nation. Sophomore Hannu Piiroinen (Tampere, Finland) and junior Jorge Lievano (Bucaramanga, Columbia) won 8-2 as well at second flight doubles to clinch the point.
Kogan, ranked No. 14 in the nation, had a straight-set win at No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-3, over No. 114 Nick Fustar, while Lievano and Piiroinen also had straight-set victories to wrap up the match. The other singles matches were not completed due to tournament time constraints.
