Green Wave Track Has Four Winners at LSU

BATON ROUGE, La. - Tulane University tallied four individual winners in outdoor track and field action at the LSU Alumni Gold Invitational on Saturday afternoon at Bernie Moore Track Stadium.
For the men, senior Solomon Kandie (Nairobi, Kenya) won the 3,000-meter steeplechase, while freshman Phillip Aagaard (Lincoping, Sweden) captured the 800-meter title. Kandie posted a time of 8:56.88 to win by nearly a full minute, while Emilsson's time was 1:50.72.
Senior Katrina Gemmell (Palmerston North, New Zealand) won the women's title in the 1,500 meters, covering the distance in 4:35.00. Freshman Jelena Jurlina (Zadar, Croatia) broke her own school record in the discus with a first-place throw of 162-02.
The Green wave also had a trio of third-place finishers and three fourth-place efforts. Placing third were senior Asha James (Pickering, Ontario) in the 100-meter dash, sophomore Carlyne Pradieu (Brooklyn, N.Y.) in the 800 meters and freshman Helmi Leppanen (Kerava, Finland) in the javelin. Fourth-place finishes came from Jurlina in the javelin, Leppanen in the shot put and freshman Moji Alade (Bakersfield, Calif.) is the discus.
The Wave is back in action next weekend at the Alabama Relays.
