
Men's Tennis Gets Back on Track

BLACKSBURG, Va. - Tulane University snapped its own two-match losing streak and in the process broke a seven-match winning streak for Virginia Tech, with a 6-1 victory on Friday afternoon.
The improves the No. 22-ranked Green Wave to 12-5, while No. 39 Virginia Tech drops to 12-5. It is Tulane's eighth victory this year against a ranked opponent.
Tulane won two of the three doubles matches then captured five of the six singles contests. No. 59 Victor Romero (Atizapan, Mexico) moved into the No. 1 singles slot and won a hard-fought battle with No. 78 Saber Kadiri, 6-7, 6-2, 6-4. At No. 2, 18th-ranked Michael Kogan cruised to a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Francis Huot.
Juniors Mattias Westerberg (Lulea, Sweden) and Jorge Lievano (Bucaramanga, Columbia) also picked up victories at Nos. 3 and 4 singles, respectively. Lievano leads the Wave with 11 victories this spring. Sophomore Hannu Piiroinen (Tampere, Finland) also had a three-set triumph, at No. 5 singles.
The Wave remains in Blacksburg, playing Brown University on Saturday afternoon.
