Tulane Standouts Excel at Miami Gatorade Classic

CORAL GABLES, Fla. - Tulane University sent five athletes to the Miami Gatorade Track Classic and came away with two first-place finishes, two seconds and a fourth on Saturday afternoon.
Senior Solomon Kandie (Nairobi, Kenya) won the 1,500 meters with a time of 3:48.66, while freshman Jelena Jurlina (Zadar, Croatia) took first place in the discus with a throw of 47.80 meters.
Second place finishers were freshman Phillip Aagaard in the 800 in a time of 1:51.18 and freshman Helmi Leppanen (Kerava, Finland) in the javelin with a throw of 45.41 meters.
Senior Clement Abai (Port Moresby, New Guinea) took fourth place in the 800 meters with a time of 1:51.49.
Tulane will be in action next weekend at the Mt. SAC Relays and the LSU Invitational.
