NEW ORLEANS, La. - - The Tulane women's tennis team was recognized as an All-Academic Team by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, the organization announced on Thursday.
The ITA All-Academic Team honor is awarded to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or better on a 4.00 scale. The Green Wave have earned the prestigious award in each of the last five seasons, and this year's squad posted a cumulative GPA of over 3.50.
In addition, three Wave players were recognized by the ITA with ITA Scholar-Athlete status. Anneli Axsater, Maiko Cook and Julie Morris each picked up the honor after recording at least a 3.50 GPA. The ITA Scholar-Athlete Award is annually awarded to those student-athletes who achieve at least a 3.50 GPA and are juniors or seniors in academic standing.
"This is a great honor for both the team and our individual players," Tulane head coach David Schumacher said. "We work extremely hard to excel both on the court and in the classroom and it is nice to see that work recognized."
The Wave finished the 2002 season with a 15-12 overall record and recorded a third-place showing at the Conference USA Tournament.
