NEW ORLEANS, La. - Patrizio Maucci, a standout tennis player at Bradenton Academy in Florida, has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend Tulane University and compete in men's tennis, head coach Robert Klein announced on Friday.
"We're excited to have a very talented player join our team," Klein said. "Patrizio's game has a lot of weapons. He hits an extremely heavy ball from the baseline and his 6-6 frame allows him to have a very good serve. We think he is a young player with a great deal of potential."
The 6-6, 220-pound Maucci is a native of Italy, but currently lives in Neuilly, France. He has attended Bradenton Academy for four years and has been training at the IMG/Bolletieri Tennis Academy. In addition to being undefeated in singles action at Bradenton, the left-handed hitting signee was the Most Valuable Player of the school's soccer team and a member of the National Honor Society.
Maucci joins a Green Wave team which has earned six consecutive bids to the NCAA Tournament. Last year, the Wave posted an 18-8 mark and took second place at the Conference USA Championship under Klein, in his ninth year at the helm.
The Wave returns its top six players from a year ago, including two-time C-USA Player of the Year Michael Kogan, who was also tabbed as the Louisiana Player of the Year. In addition to Koagn, the No. 26 ranked player in the country, the Wave has No. 65 ranked Victor Romero, a two-time first team all-conference selection.
Tulane is scheduled to open its 2002-2003 season on September 28 with individuals in action at the University of Kentucky Invitational.
