Tulane Advances to Quarterfinals with 4-1 Win

TULSA, OKLA. - No. 9 seed Tulane 's men's tennis team defeated No. 8 seed UAB 4-1 in the first round of the American Conference Championships on Thursday morning.
The Green Wave improved to 8-11 on the season, while UAB fell to 7-14.
The No. 37 nationally ranked doubles pair of Daniel Phillips and Lance Nisbet secured a win at No.1, but UAB claimed the doubles point with victories on courts 2 and 3.
In singles, Steven Rice (6-0, 6-1) earned Tulane's first point at the No. 6 position, followed by Alec Gaudin (6-2, 7-5) at No. 3. Hady ElKordy added a 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 4 before Daniel Phillips (7-6 (7-5), 6-2) clinched the match for the Green Wave at the No.1 position.
Tulane will return to action in the quarterfinals at the American Conference Championships on Friday at 10 a.m. against No. 1 seed Rice. The Owls are 13-7 on the season.
