TULSA, Okla. - Freshman Patrizio Maucci (Neuilly, France) picked up his second victory for Tulane University at the Hurricane Men's Tennis Invitational at the University of Tulsa on Saturday morning, but was ousted from the main draw in his afternoon match.
Maucci defeated Drakes's Matt McClure in a tough match, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4, to advance to the third round. However, he was stopped by another Drake player, Felipe Montenegro, 6-4, 6-3. Maucci is competing in his first collegiate tourney.
Junior Hannu Piiroinen (Tampere, Finland), who had lost in his first round match, came back for a consolation victory over Oklahoma's Tommy Garrison, 6-4, 6-4, but was defeated by Pavel Hanek from Southwest Missouri State, 4-6, 6-4, 3-6.
In doubles action, it was again Drake playing the foil to the Green Wave. Maucci and Piiroinen, who had defeated Matt Roberts and Adrians Zguns from Arkansas in the opening round, fell to Kirk Schuler and Anthony Perkins from Drake, 8-6.
Both Maucci and Piiroinen will play consolation matches on Sunday morning before returning home to New Orleans.
