Green Wave to Host Tulane Invitational Cross Country Meet

NEW ORLEANS, La. - Tulane University will host the 2002 Tulane Invitational Cross Country Meet at Lake Oaks Park in New Orleans on Friday afternoon.
Lake Oaks Park is located at the end of Elysian Fields Avenue at Lake Ponchartrain.
The invitational will be the head coaching debut for first-year Green Wave coach Heather Van Norman, who arrived in New Orleans after four years as an assistant coach at Georgia Tech. She focused on the Yellow Jacket sprints, relays and long hurdles. During that time, Georgia Tech had four top 30 finishes at the NCAA Indoor and Outdoor Championships, while producing seven individual All-Americans and one All-America relay team.
The women's race will cover a two-mile course and will start at 5 p.m., while the three-mile men's race will begin at approximately 5:30 p.m. (after the women's contest).
Eight schools will send men's and women's teams to the event. Joining Tulane will be the University of New Orleans, Xavier, Loyola, LSU, University of Mobile, Birmingham Southern and Southern Miss.
In last year's contest, Alabama won the men's race, while Tulane was victorious for the women.
