Men's Tennis Upends San Diego State, 4-3

SEATTLE, Wash. - The Tulane University men's tennis team picked up its third victory of the season, all over ranked opponents, with a 4-3 win over No. 33 San Diego State on Saturday afternoon at the Lloyd Nordstrom Tennis Center on the University of Washington campus.
Tulane (3-1) opened play by winning the all-important doubles point. The Wave combo of Michael Kogan and Victor Romero, ranked No. 29 in the nation, won a hard-fought 9-7 decision over the sixth-ranked tandem in the country, Oliver Maiberger and Ryan Redondo. Mattias Westerberg and Dmitri Koch won at second doubles to clinch the point.
In singles action, Maiberger, ranked No. 13 in the nation, handed Kogan, ranked No. 32, his first loss of the spring, 7-5, 6-2. However, the Wave's 70th-ranked Romero and Mattias Westerberg each had three-set victories while Jorge Lievano won his No. 5 singles match in straight sets to wrap up the overall victory for Tulane.
Tulane is back in action on Sunday, facing the winner of the Clemson-Washington match.
