
Michael Aubrey Named LSWA Player of the Week

NEW ORLEANS, La. - Tulane junior first baseman Michael Aubrey picked up his first regular-season recognition of the 2003 season Monday afternoon when the Shreveport native and 2000 graduate of Southwood High was named Player of the Week by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association.
Aubrey, a preseason first-team All-American and the early choice for Conference USA Player of the Year, earn the state's first weekly honor of the year after hitting .600 for the week with a home run while tallying seven RBI and two stolen bases to help lead the Green Wave to a three-game series victory over visiting George Mason as Tulane improved to 5-1 on the year.
Aubrey got his week off to a good start on Friday with a 3-for-3 showing against the Patriots that included a towering shot over the wall in straight-away centerfield. He reached base in all five trips to the plate, scored three times and posted three RBI.
He also had a 3-for-3 contest on Sunday with four RBI and two runs scored. After getting plunked in the first inning, Aubrey hit singles in his next three trips to the plate with a two-RBI base-knock in the second and run-scoring singles in the third and fifth innings in the 10-run-rule shortened game.
With six hits, two walks and two hit by pitch, Aubrey tallied a .714 on-base percentage for the week while recording a .900 slugging percentage with nine total bases in 10 at-bats.
For the season, Aubrey leads Tulane with a .600 batting average (12-for-20) and 11 RBI. He also has two doubles and a home run for a .850 slugging percentage and a .654 on-base clip courtesy of three walks and two hit by pitch.
