TAMPA, Fla. - The University of South Florida defeated Tulane University to win the Conference USA Shootout on Sunday afternoon at the USF Varsity Tennis Courts.
Tulane is ranked No. 29 in the nation, while South Florida holds the No. 21 rating.
Due to inclement weather, the teams did not play doubles and USF took four out of the six singles matches to win the match. The clinching match came at number two singles where the Bulls' Renalto Silveria beat Victor Romero 1-6, 6-3, 6-4.
Tulane's 17th-ranked Michael Kogan continued his strong play, winning his fifth straight singles match with a straight set victory over Uli Kiendl at No. 1 singles. Kogan has now won nine straight sets in singles play.
The Green Wave's other point came at No. 4 singles, where Mattias Westerberg defeated Andres Maroldt, 6-3, 6-0.
Tulane will depart Florida and travel straight to California as the school is currently on spring break. The Green Wave will play at No. 4 Stanford (Wednesday) and at No. 18 Pepperdine (Friday) next week.
