
Season Not Over For Wave Men's Tennis Stars

ATHENS, Ga. - Despite the Tulane University men's tennis team being upended by Stanford in the NCAA Team Championship on Saturday, two Green Wave stars will continue their postseason journey. Michael Kogan and Victor Romero will compete in the NCAA Doubles Championship, while Kogan will also look for an NCAA Singles title.
Sixty-four singles competitors and 32 doubles teams have been selected for the Championships, which take place at the University of Georgia, along with the team championships.
Kogan, the three-time Player of the Year in Conference USA, is matched against Ohio State's Vincent Ng, who holds the No. 38 ranking in the nation, in the first round. The match is scheduled for 9 a.m. on Wednesday. The winner will play the winner of the match between No. 57 Robert Kowalczyk from Cal and No. 50 Ante Matijevic from Texas A&M.
In doubles action, Kogan and Romero own the No. 5 seed in the tournament. They will battle the 26th-ranked tandem in the nation, Prakash Amritraj and Daniel Langre from USC on Thursday at a time to be determined. The winner of that match advances to play the winner of the match between Andrew Golub and Colin Purcell from Miami and Jean Simon and Jose Zarhi from Texas. The Miami pair hold the No. 30 ranking in the nation, while the Longhorn team is No. 20.
Kogan and Romero are ranked No. 5 in the nation in doubles with a 24-1 record, while Kogan holds the No. 11 ranking in the nation in singles with a 21-2 record.
Tulane, which holds the No. 15 ranking in the nation as a team, closed its 2003 season with a 21-6 record, establishing a school record for victories.
