
Tulane Tennis Stars Earn All-America Honors

ATHENS, Ga. - Junior Michael Kogan advanced to the round of 16 in singles to earn All-America honors at the NCAA Men's Tennis Singles Championship on Thursday morning at the University of Georgia. In addition, Kogan and partner Victor Romero picked up a victory in doubles to advance to the round of 16 in that tournament and earn All-America recognition in pairs play as well.
Kogan, the three-time Player of the Year in Conference USA, won his second match at the tournament with a hard-fought 6-3, 4-6, 6-1 victory over Robert Kowalczyk from Cal. Kogan held the No. 11 ranking in the country entering the tournament, while Kowalczyk was No. 57. It is the 14th straight victory for Kogan in singles play.
He advances to face Georgia's Bo Hodge at noon on Friday. Hodge is the fourth seed in the tournament.
In doubles play on Thursday, Kogan and Romero won their 16th straight doubles match with a 7-6, 7-5 victory over the 26th-ranked tandem in the nation, Prakash Amritraj and Daniel Langre from USC. The Tulane tandem advances to play Miami's Andrew Golub and Colin Purcell, who hold the No. 30 ranking in the nation. That match will take place later in the afternoon on Friday.
Kogan also earned All-America honors in singles and doubles as a freshman in 2001.
Tulane, which holds the No. 15 ranking in the nation as a team, closed its 2003 season with a 21-6 record, establishing a school record for victories.
