COLUMBUS, Ohio - Jelena Jurlina and Angel Dooley will represent Tulane University at the NCAA Mideast Track and Field Regional this weekend at Ohio State University.
Jurlina will compete in both the javelin and the discus, while Dooley will be in action in the 100-meter dash. The javelin throw takes place on Friday at noon, while the discus will be Saturday at 5:30 p.m. Dooley runs in the 100-meter preliminary heats on Friday at 6:30 p.m.
Jurlina is the Green Wave record-holder in the discus and has the second-best effort in school history in the javelin. She won the javelin and took second place in the discus at the Conference USA Championships.
"I can't say enough about what Jelena has meant to the team," Tulane coach Heather Van Norman said. "She keeps going out and getting better and better. She is very confidant going into this weekend and she has a great chance to advance to the Nationals."
Dooley waited until the last possible chance to qualify for the regionals by posting a career-best time of 11.68 in the 100-meter dash at the Conference USA meet.
"I am so proud of Angel," Van Norman said. "She has worked hard all year and had a great performance at the conference meet."
The top performers from the regional meet advance to the NCAA Championships in Sacramento, Calif., from June 11-14.
