COLUMBUS, Ohio - Tulane University sophomore Jelena Jurlina finished in fourth place in the javelin at the NCAA Mideast Track and Field Regional on Friday afternoon at Ohio State University's Jesse Owens Track Complex. She advances to the NCAA National Championships in Sacramento, Calif., to be held June 11-14.
Jurlina will also compete in the discus throw on Saturday afternoon at 5:30 p.m. She is the Green Wave record-holder in that event.
"Jelena has continued to work and improve all season," Tulane coach Heather Van Norman said. "All the credit goes to her effort and the work of our throws coach Mike Willard. They have made a great team this season."
Jurlina had a throw of 156 feet, three inches, her fourth-best effort of the year.
In addition, Green Wave sophomore Angel Dooley took 11th place in the 100-meter dash, falling short of qualifying for the nationals with a time of 11.71 seconds, her second-best career mark.
"Angel had a great season," Van Norman said. "She came on strong at the end of the season and I am very excited to keep working with her in the future. She will have a great career at Tulane."
