WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - - The Tulane women's golf team stands in 18th place after the opening round of the NCAA East Regional at the Salem Glen Country Club on Thursday.
The Green Wave shot a 25-over par 309 for the first round and is 21 shots behind the leader, Duke, who fired a 288.
Tulane was led by Carolin Landman, who shot a three-over par 74 for the first 18 holes. She currently stands in 24th place in the individual standings. Conference USA Freshman of the Year Liliana Alvarez is tied for 41st after firing a five-over par 76, while senior Kathy Schafer is tied for 71st after adding a 79.
Lindsay Hulwick added an 80 for the Green Wave, while Alexis Wooster completed the first round with an 84.
The Green Wave are just six strokes back from a trio of teams in eighth place - Arizona, North Carolina State and South Carolina - who all fired a 303. The top eight teams all advance to the NCAA Tournament. Duke currently leads the team standings with a 288 after the first round, while Florida State is in second with a 290.
The women's golf team will return to action on Friday with its second round at the NCAA East Regional.
