SACRAMENTO, Calif. - With a javelin throw of 153 feet, four inches, Tulane sophomore Jelena Jurlina finished 10th in the finals of that event at the NCAA Championships on Friday evening at Cal State Sacramento's Hornet Stadium.
Jurlina, the Conference USA javelin champion, narrowly missed earning All-American honors in the event. The top eight finishers in each event are recognized with that distinction.
Winning the NCAA Championship in the event was Indiana's Irina Kharun, who launched the javelin an amazing 202 feet, 10 inches. That mark shattered the NCAA record, which had been 197 feet, eight inches.
Jurlina was the lone Green Wave competitor at the national championships.
