NEW ORLEANS, La. - Former University of Miami standout Michael Lang has joined the Tulane men's tennis program as an assistant coach, head coach Robert Klein announced Tuesday.
Lang comes to Tulane after playing professionally throughout the world and working in the tennis retail business.
"This is an incredible opportunity for me to come to a highly regarded tennis program," Lang said. "I am very excited to work with a respected coach like Robert Klein, especially after the success of last year's team. This is a great opportunity."
The Florida native had a decorated collegiate career which was capped by earning Big East Player of the Year honors in 2001 for the Hurricanes. He was also Miami's MVP in his junior and senior years. He began his career at the University of Georgia, helping the Bulldogs to the 1999 NCAA Team Championship. As a top-ranked junior player, Lang competed in the Nokia Sugar Bowl Tournament in New Orleans.
"We are very pleased to add Michael to our staff here at Tulane," Klein said. "He had a very successful playing career as a junior player and as a collegiate player. He has had incredible success at every level and he will help us continue to strive towards our goal of being one of the top collegiate programs in the country."
In addition to coaching, Lang will pursue his MBA at Tulane.
Tulane, which has earned bids to seven consecutive NCAA Tournament, advanced to the NCAA Sweet Sixteen for the first time in program history last season. The Green Wave closed the season ranked No. 14 in the nation.
