NEW ORLEANS, La. - Canadian junior standout David Goulet has joined the Tulane University men's tennis program, head coach Robert Klein announced. The Green Wave has also added Maxime Lacroix, a transfer from Pacific.
Goulet was a dominant junior player in Canada, winning the Canadian Championship in 18 and under doubles and advancing to the singles finals in the same age group.
"David is a great addition to our program," Klein said. "David has solid results at the international level and is one of Canada's best juniors. We are excited to have a young, talented player who can develop into one of the nation's top collegiate players."
A native of Longueuil, Quebec, the 6-4 Goulet was voted the top junior player for 2002 by the Quebec Tennis Federation. He has also participated in numerous international tournaments.
A graduate of the Sport-Etudes De Mortagne school, Goulet speaks French, English and Spanish.
In addition to Goulet, Lacroix joins the Green Wave as a graduate student after completing his undergraduate degree at the University of Pacific, where he lettered in tennis for three years. The 5-10 Lacroix earned All-Big West honorable mention honors for the Tigers. A native of Auch, France, he was also recognized as an ITA Scholar-Athlete at Pacific.
"Max will bring a good deal of depth to the Green Wave lineup," Klein said. "He brings a lot of successful experience to our program. He is a solid baseliner who can wear down opponents. His style is similar to that of former Tulane star Mattias Westerberg."
Tulane opens its 2003-04 season on Sept. 19, with individuals participating in the Auburn Invitational.
