"We are very excited to add two student-athletes of the caliber of Whitney and Valencia," Van Norman said. "We expect both of them to come in and immediately boost our team on the track, but more important, they are both good people and excellent students who will fit in well with our team."
Hampton is a top level middle distance runner in California. She holds El Toro High School records in the 800-meter, 1500-meter and 1600-meter runs while also helping the 1600-meter relay, the 4x800 relay, the sprint medley relay and the distance-medley relay teams to school-record times. She has been a two-time league champion in the 800 and a state finalist in cross country.
Wilson is a double state champion from Nevada after winning the 100-meter and 400-meter dashes at the 2004 outdoor state championships. She set the state record in the 400 with a personal-best time of 54.23. She also placed third in the 200 at the state meet.
Tulane recently completed its cross country season and now turns it sights on the indoor track and field season, which opens on Jan. 15 at the LSU Purple Tiger Invitational in Baton Rouge.
