NEW ORLEANS, La. - Tulane freshman Danielle Carrillo was named Conference USA Diver of the Week, the league announced on Tuesday after the Green Wave swept North Texas, Henderson State and host Arkansas-Little Rock last Saturday in Little Rock, Ark.
A native of Kirkland, Wash., and 2004 graduate of Inglemoor High School, Carrillo posted wins in both the one- and three-meter springboards to become the first student-athlete in Tulane history to earn C-USA Diver of the Week recognition. Carrillo also becomes the second freshman in as many weeks to earn a weekly league honor, as fellow rookie Sarah Dicharry was named C-USA Swimmer of the Week on Nov. 2.
"This is the second week in a row that the program has been recognized, and I think this shows how far we have come as a team in a very short period of time," head coach Daniella Irle said. "Danielle has shown steady improvement in her athletic ability and diving technique throughout the season, and she has learned quickly how to compete much better."
In last Saturday's triple-dual meet, Carrillo posted the first two wins of her collegiate career with a 217.85 in the one-meter springboard and a 227.40 in the three-meter event. Her one-meter mark was 12.50 points better than second-placed Lauren Page of North Texas, and the three-meter score was 22.70 over UNT's Page once again.
Carrillo and the Green Wave returns to action on Saturday, Nov. 13, when Tulane host Arkansas-Little Rock and cross-town foe UNO at 10 a.m. at the Reily Student Recreation Center Natatorium. Admission to the double-dual meet is open to the public, and admission is free.
