
Swimming's McEachrane Selected to Participate In NCAA Championship

NEW ORLEANS, La. - Tulane freshman sprinter Linda McEachrane was selected to participate in the 2004 NCAA Championships in the 50- and 100-yard freestyle events beginning on March 18 in College Station, Texas, the NCAA announced Saturday.
The 2004 Conference USA Freshman Swimmer of the Year, McEachrane qualified for the NCAA's via provisional times she posted at the C-USA Championships last weekend in Houston. She enters the national championship meet seeded 32nd in the 100-yard freestyle and 37th in the 50 free.
"This is a tremendous honor and opportunity for Linda and the Tulane program," head coach Daniella Irle said. "She has had an outstanding season and now she will have a chance to go head-to-head with the fastest swimmers in the country. Linda has worked hard all year, and she's only going to get better with experience."
One of 14 true freshman to make up Tulane's first swim team in over a decade, McEachrane won individual titles in the both events at the C-USA Championship, finishing a lifetime-best 23.08 in the 50-yard freestyle last Friday before earning the 100-yard freestyle championship with a meet record and personal-best time of 50.29.
In addition, McEachrane also finished third in the C-USA Meet in the 100-yard breaststroke with a 1:03.95 to earn her third all-conference honor of the season. For the season, McEachrane won nine meet titles in the 100 free, six in the 50 free, and one in the 100 breast, as well as serving as a key member of several Green Wave relay teams.
The NCAA Championships, hosted by Texas A&M University, will begin on Thursday, March 18 and conclude on Saturday, March 20 at the Student Recreation Center Natatorium.
