Track and Field Has Strong Showing at Hurricane Invitational

MIAMI, Fla. - Tulane University tallied three NCAA Regional Qualifying marks and had four student-athletes register personal records in outdoor track and field action at the Hurricane Invitational on Saturday on the campus of the University of Miami.
Junior Jelena Jurlina, who has won back-to-back Athlete of the Week honors from Conference USA, again posted regional qualifying marks in the javelin and the discus, while classmate Helmi Leppanen notched a qualifying distance in the shot put.
The Green Wave sprinters also had an excellent day on Saturday as the 4x100 Relay team of Lissie Mo, Angel Dooley, Tahira Wiggins and Gloria Asumnu posted a time of 45.88 seconds, the third-best mark in school history and the best since 2000. Wiggins added a personal-best effort in the 400, while Asumnu's time of 24.25 seconds in the 200-meter dash was a personal record.
Senior classmates Sheena Garwood and Carlyne Pradieu each tallied season-bests in the 800-meter run with Garwood's time of 2:13.73 establishing a new personal-best as well.
Sophomore Marilyn Sauls had a career-best effort in the long jump, leaping 18 feet, eight and a half inches.
Tulane returns to action next Saturday at the LSU Alumni Gold Invitational in Baton Rouge.
