Tulane Wins on the Road in Men's Tennis Action

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Despite losing the doubles point and two of the top three singles matches, Tulane University topped No. 58 Middle Tennessee State, 4-3, in men's tennis action on Saturday afternoon at the Buck Bouldin Tennis Center.
Tulane, which is ranked No. 27 in the nation, improves to 14-4 with the victory.
The match was decided at No. 6 singles as Tulane's Alberto Sottocorno battled the Blue Raiders' Rishan Kiruppu. The Green Wave freshman won the first set in a tiebreaker, but Kiruppu came back to take the second set. However, in the deciding set, Sottocorno outlasted the Blue Raider, picking up a break on route to the 6-3 clincher.
In doubles action, Tulane's 35th-ranked tandem of Michael Kogan and David Goulet defeated 49th-ranked Brandon Allen and Kai Schledorn at No. 1, 8-5. However, the Blue Raiders won at No. 2 and No. 3 to escape with the doubles point and a 1-0 advantage.
In singles, the Green Wave and the Blue Raiders battled deep into four tilts, with Sottocorno's match being the decider.
Kogan, ranked No. 13 in the nation in singles, defeated No. 120 Andreas Siljestrom, 3-6, 6-4, 6-3, but the Wave dropped the No. 2 and No. 3 singles matches.
The Wave came back with victories in the next two spots with Goulet defeating Trevor Short, 6-7, 7-5, 6-3 and Jacobo Hernandez stopping Aidan Fitzgerald, 6-3, 6-2.
Tulane is back in action on Sunday, playing at No. 22 Vanderbilt at 1 p.m.
