Tulane Track Signs Shanon Beelendorf

NEW ORLEANS, La. - The Tulane University track and field program has signed Illinois high school star Shanon Beelendorf to a National Letter of Intent, head coach Heather Van Norman announced on Thursday.
Beelendorf is a top sprinter and high jumper at Sterling High School in Sterling, Ill. She is undefeated in the 200 and 400-meter dashes this outdoor season and also placed fifth in the high jump at the Illinois State Championships in 2003.
"Shanon is a great addition to our program," Van Norman said. "She is a very versatile athlete with tremendous potential. She will run in the sprints as well as coming right in as the top high jumper for us."
Beelendorf has posted personal records of 25.12 seconds in the 200-meter dash, 55.81 seconds in the 400-meter dash and five feet, six inches in the high jump. The 5-6 mark in the high jump would make her the fourth-best high-jumper in Tulane history.
In addition to her outstanding athletic credentials, she is also very active in community programs such as B.L.I.N.D. and Big Brothers/Big Sisters.
"I am very excited about our entire recruiting class," Van Norman said. "We signed some great student-athletes early and have added another great one in Shanon so far this spring."
Beelendorf is joined in the Tulane signing class by early signees Rachel Bryan (Elk Grove, Calif.), Sierra Henderson (Auburn, Wash.), Keriann Langley (New Orleans, La.) and Aubrey Phillips (Baton Rouge, La.).
Tulane continues is outdoor track season on May 1st at the Ole Miss Open. The Green Wave will compete in the Conference USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Louisville, Ky., May 13-15.
