Green Wave in Third Place at C-USA Track Championships

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Tulane University women's track team is in third place after the first full day of action at the Conference USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Cardinal Park. The final events will be completed on Saturday with the presentation of awards scheduled for 3:50 p.m.
Tulane has 34 points after six events, while USF holds the top slot with 38 points and the University of Houston has 35 points.
Junior Jelena Jurlina was the top scorer for the Green Wave, tallying 10 points by winning the javelin for the second year in a row. She was followed by teammate Helmi Leppanen who earned eight points for second place. Jurlina's throw of 148 feet, 11 inches was her eighth NCAA Regional Qualifying mark of the year in the javelin. Leppanen had a season-best effort of 137 feet, nine inches.
Jurlina added six more points by taking third place in the discus with a throw of 160 feet, five inches, her eighth NCAA Regional qualifying mark in the event.
Junior Lissie Mo also added a third-place effort for the Wave, posting a mark of 18 feet, 11 and three-quarters inches in the long jump. Senior Jillian Green earned three points for her sixth-place finish in the long jump with a distance of 18 feet, seven and three-quarters inches.
The only event scored on Thursday was the hammer throw and Green Wave sophomore Nicole Sauer earned one point for her eight-place effort with a personal record of 148 feet, two inches.
Tulane also had individuals turn in excellent efforts in preliminary heats to qualify for Saturday's final heats. Senior Carlyne Pradieu qualified in the 800-meter run and the 1,500-meter run; junior Angel Dooley advanced in the 400-meter dash; and senior Eva Lustigova qualified for the finals in the 800.
Tulane action opens on Saturday for the Green Wave with Mo and Christina Tegbe competing in the triple jump at 11 a.m.
