NEW ORLEANS, La. - - Sophomore Jenny Kuhn is completing her second season with the Tulane women's tennis team, which has achieved its highest ranking in school history this spring while winning its second consecutive Conference USA Championship. Kuhn, a native of Leipzig, Germany, was named the Conference USA Player of the Year for the second straight season while leading the Green Wave into the NCAA Championships for the fifth time in their history.
Major: I am starting in the Business School next year, but I am not exactly sure what my major is going to be yet. I think I might double major in Accounting and Finance.
Favorite Book: We read so many text books that I don't remember the last book I read for fun.
Favorite On-Campus Activities: Going to Bruff... You get to hang out with your friends and meet new people. Plus, there is food there.
If I could play another sport at Tulane (regardless of ability), it would be: Probably volleyball, because I always wanted to know what it is like to be on a real team sport.
I Chose Tulane Because: I got a scholarship. I got lucky. I wanted to go to school in America, but didn't really know much about the different schools. David (Schumacher, the women's tennis head coach) contacted me in Germany.
Personal Philosophy: Always try to give 100 percent
People who influenced athletic career: My dad and my brother. My dad used to be a professional soccer player and I think I got his athleticism. My brother always challenged me to be better. They both used to go hit with me when I was younger.
Best Advice I ever received: The only people who want the very best for you are your parents. My parents used to tell me that, I think it is true to a large degree.
A Class I would recommend: Criminology with Maurer. It is easy. Easiest class I've taken so far. I know everyone says Acting, but I didn't care for it too much.
Actor you would most like to see in a movie: Brad Pitt. Just because he is Brad Pitt.
Favorite Food: Any thing with Chocolate in it. I love chocolate.
Favorite kind of cookie: That's a hard one, because there are so many good cookies. I like them all except the ones with raisins - the oatmeal raisin ones I don't like.
Dream Vacation Destination: I have never been to the Caribbean. Anywhere there is white sandy beaches and turquoise blue water would be great for me.
If you could have dinner with any 3 people from history, who would they be: Albert Einstein, because he could explain his theories so I could understand them. Steffi Graf because I want to know the key to her mental toughness. And any woman from the Middle Ages, because I just want to know what life was like in the Middle Ages. I like castles and that kind of stuff.
Favorite teacher: My French teacher at Tulane my Freshman year. We were her first class and she was really trying to be a good teacher.
Who is the all-time best player at your position: Steffi Graf... She won the Grand Slam. She has had so many successes during her career.
What has been your favorite moment with a fan: I had a fan in a wheelchair ask me for an autograph when I was 14. It was the first time anyone had asked me for an autograph. I was a ball kid at a professional tournament in my town and Steffi Graf was playing Jana Novotna.
Three words to describe Mardi Gras: Not for me. It is just gross. There are too many people and they just destroy the city.
All-time favorite tv show: "The Fresh Prince of Bel Air." I like Will Smith and I really liked the show when I was younger.
Favorite movie: "Love Actually." I just thought it was really funny, but I also cried. It had the right mixture. It was touching, yet at the same time funny.
Favorite sports movie: I have enough sports during the day, so I don't really watch a lot of sports movies.
If you could go to any concert ever, who/what would you see: Michael Jackson in his early years. His show was just amazing back then. He didn't look that scary yet.
What do you do before a match to get you focused and pumped up: At Tulane, we do a group cheer. When I am at tournaments by myself, I listen to music. I go where there aren't any people so I can focus.
If you could beat one school in tennis, who would it be: Florida... Because I think it is time to show everyone that our team is really good. Especially the people who didn't allow us to host the NCAA Tournament this year.
Most Memorable Experience with Tulane Athletics: When I won the National Indoors with Julie as a freshman. We just didn't expect that to happen. We were just freshmen.
How has being a Tulane student-athlete helped or changed you: I've always been really organized and have used my time wisely. And those skills have helped as a student athlete - more so than ever before.
Are there any people you would like to thank: My family for always being there and supporting me. I can call them in the middle of the night and they would be there for me.
