NEW ORLEANS, La. - Tulane University will have three individuals representing its tennis program in the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships which will be conducted May 26-31 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, following the conclusion of the team championship (May 22-25).
Tulane (18-4), which is also competing in the NCAA Team Championships, will be represented in the singles competition by senior Michael Kogan and junior Dmitriy Koch. In doubles, it will be Kogan and freshman partner David Goulet. It is the fourth year in a row that Kogan has been selected for both the singles and doubles championships.
Kogan, who is a 9-16 seed in the singles tournament, is one of just 21 individuals who will compete in the singles, doubles and team championships. Overall, there are 64 teams, 64 singles players and 32 doubles teams in the three championships.
The Green Wave, which is ranked No. 19 in the country, will open its team competition next Saturday, playing No. 30 Notre Dame in a first round match at the Cambridge, Mass., Regional. If the Wave wins on Saturday, it will advance to play on Sunday against the winner of the Harvard-Quinnipiac match. The winner of that match advances to the University of Tulsa, the site of the final four rounds of the team championship.
Kogan is currently ranked No. 11 in the nation with a 16-4 record this spring, while Koch has a 13-3 record this season and is ranked No. 46 in the country. In doubles play, Kogan and Goulet have teamed up to record a 16-1 record and a No. 12 national rating.
A two-time All-American in singles and doubles, Kogan won his unprecedented fourth Conference USA Player of the Year Award this spring. He was joined on the All-Conference USA First Team by Koch while Goulet was honored as the league's Freshman of the Year and also earned all-league third team recognition.
