
Green Wave Women's Tennis Opens 2005 With Victory

NEW ORLEANS, La. - The Tulane University women's tennis team opened its 2005 dual-match season with a 6-1 victory over Florida A&M on Sunday afternoon at the Goldring Tennis Center.
The Green Wave, ranked No. 9 in the nation, won five singles matches and also captured the doubles point in the match. It was also the season-opener for the Rattlers.
Playing at No. 1 singles, senior Maria Ivanov posted an impressive 6-0, 6-2 victory over Eka Zvania. Ivanov is ranked No. 112 in the nation. Junior Jenny Kuhn, who is ranked No. 81, notched a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles, while 51st-ranked Nancy Kockott registered a 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 4.
Junior Julie Smekodub also won in singles action while freshman Gracie Glassmeyer was credited with her first collegiate dual-match victory, a 6-0, 6-0 whitewashing at No. 6 singles.
In doubles play, sisters Maria and Darya Ivanov scored an 8-2 victory at No. 1, while Kuhn and sophomore Dorottya Magas won at No. 2 doubles, 8-0. The Ivanov sisters are ranked No. 49 in the country.
The Green Wave is back in action on Monday afternoon, hosting Southern University at noon at the Goldring Tennis Center.
