
No. 9 Women's Tennis Defeats Southern

NEW ORLEANS, La. - The Tulane University women's tennis team won its second match in as many days with a 6-1 win over Southern on Monday afternoon at the Goldring Tennis Center.
Tulane swept the doubles matches, earning the first point of the contest. Julie Smekodub and Jenny Kuhn defeated Francisca Osedumme and Tania Hicks at No. 1, 8-1, while the duo Nancy Kockott and Ana Saaibi shut out Isoke Perry and Sarah Johnson at No. 2, 8-0. At No. 3 doubles, Kori Ounjian and Gracie Glassmeyer earned the win over Kelli Nabors and Jennifer Floyd, 8-3.
The Green Wave then went on to win five of six singles matches to win its second match of the season.
At No. 1 singles, senior Maria Ivanov, ranked No. 112 by the ITA, recorded the win, 6-1, 6-0 over Southern's Osedumme. Sophomore Darya Ivanov, No. 64 in the rankings, captured the win at No. 2 against Isoke Perry, 6-0, 6-1. In the match at No. 3, Dorottya Magas, ranked No. 106, picked up a 6-0, 6-1 victory against Kelli Nabors.
Saaibi took the victory at No. 4 singles over Hicks, 6-1, 6-3, and freshman Glassmeyer defeated Floyd in the No 5 spot, 6-0, 6-2.
The Green Wave (2-0) is back in action this weekend, hosting the Tulane Invitational. The three-day tournament begins on Friday at Goldring Tennis Center.
