Men's Tennis Defeats Brown at Blue-Gray Classic

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Tulane University opened action at the 55th annual Blue-Gray Tennis Classic with a 4-0 victory over 63rd-ranked Brown University at the Wynlakes Golf and Country Club on Thursday afternoon. The Green Wave is ranked 25th in the nation and will face 27th-ranked Rice in the quarterfinals of the event on Friday afternoon.
The Green Wave opened action on Thursday by winning the doubles point, then snagging three singles victories to clinch the win. Due to time constraints, the match was stopped once Tulane clinched the victory.
In doubles action, junior Jacobo Hernandez and sophomore Ted Angelinos won at No. 2, 8-3, and then senior Dmitriy Koch and sophomore Alberto Sottocorno wrapped up the point with an 8-5 win at No. 1.
Sottocorno improved to 11-1 in singles action, giving the Wave a 2-0 lead with a 6-3, 6-1 victory at No. 5 singles. Hernandez followed with his 10th win of the spring, a 6-2, 6-2 triumph at No. 3. Then Angelinos clinched the match victory with a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 4.
Rice defeated San Diego State, 4-2, in its first round match in the tournament.
