NEW ORLEANS, La. - Hey guys. I thought I'd scrape some time together to give you all something to read before we head out to Charlotte this weekend. It's been two weeks since I have written so I've got a few more games than usual to talk about.
After sweeping the C-USA opening series against ECU, we traveled on the road and lost two out of three to the Louisville Cardinals. I think that the Louisville series gave us a chance to learn a lot about ourselves as a team. We realized that we can't be successful by just saying we want to do something. We found ourselves not playing with the confidence and attitude that we needed, which is something that will push us over the edge when pure talent can't take you the whole way. I think the second game on Saturday was the turning point in our season thus far. We showed that we are a team that is able to get through adversity and remain focused on our goals.
We used that momentum to get ourselves on a roll, as we took care of a tough midweek game at Nicholls State before sweeping a talented UAB team during our third conference weekend. The UAB series gave us the opportunity to boost our confidence by winning in different ways and by showing the ability to put a team away, something that we really haven't been able to do consistently all season. Following that series, we most recently picked up a solid road win at UNO in preparation of this weekend's series in Charlotte, N.C.
I've seen the "team baseball" aspect of our team really begin to shine through during the last four games. There were times when we've failed get runners in to score or move runners over in certain situations, but our team showed a great ability to get the job done regardless. If one guy didn't get the runner in, the next guy picked him up and did it for him. That is something that great teams do and it is something that only boosts our team confidence. We don't rely too heavily on one guy to come through every time. Our lineup is loaded with guys who know how to come through in the clutch, which is something that is very relaxing and comforting to know as players.
And, when all else fails, we know our pitching will come through. That was abundantly evident in Tuesday night's victory over UNO.
Well guys, that's all I have for now. It's late and I need to get to packing before we leave for Charlotte. Wish us luck. Until next time...
Roll Wave,
Tommy
