SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Tulane University sprinting standouts Gloria Asumnu and Angel Dooley both competed at the NCAA Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Thursday at the Alex J. Spanos Sports Complex. Both competed in the 200-meter dash at the event.
Dooley, who was running in her last career race, posted a time of 24.09 seconds to finish 25th overall in the preliminary heats. Asumnu, who entered the event with the second-fastest 200-meter time in school history (23.56) ran 24.37 to take 26th place.
Neither of the Green Wave runners advanced to the semifinals - the top three from each of the four preliminary heats, as well as the next best six times, advanced.
"This was a good experience for both of them, it just didn't happen for us today," Tulane coach Heather Van Norman said. "I am proud of them for making it this far. It was great for Angel to finish her career by making nationals and Gloria continued to get faster all year; we're looking forward to her being back here next year, as well as more people from our team. It's a great experience; we just need to use these experiences to improve."
Twenty-eight individuals qualified for the Nationals in the 200-meter dash. Both Asumnu and Dooley competed in the first heat of the event.
Last year, Tulane had one representative at the NCAA National Championships as Jelena Jurlina finished ninth in the shot put and 19th in the javelin.
