Tulane Volleyball Knocked Off By UAB in Five

New Orleans - The Tulane University volleyball team was tripped up by the UAB Blazers in five games on Friday at Fogelman Arena (30-18, 25-30, 30-25, 30-27, 15-13). The upstart Blazers handed Tulane just its second home loss of the season. Tulane falls to 7-4 in Conference USA, 11-9 overall.
UAB out-hit Tulane .312 to .290 for the match, with the Blazers' Ivana Bozic leading UAB with 24 kills.
Sophomore outside hitter Sara Radosevic recorded 24 kills for the Green Wave, and freshman outside Ksenija Vlaskovic chipped in 15 kills. Sophomore middle blocker Jen Linder and senior outside hitter Sara Thorson each added eight kills.
Radosevic recorded her 10th double-double of the season, with 11 digs, but it was not enough for the Wave. Setter Luna Rebrovic added her sixth career double-double with 11 digs and 36 assists. Freshman libero Jenn Miller contributed 23 digs, and now owns the Tulane freshman record for digs in a single season with 380.
"We have to give credit to UAB," head coach Liz Kritza said. "They played us tough tonight and found a way to make this young team adjust time and time again. Our team has to be one that is balanced and tonight we were not."
The Blazers shocked Tulane in game one, winning 30-18 by hitting a blistering .457. The Wave rallied for a 30-25 win in game two, but fell behind after a 30-25 loss in game three. Tulane forced a fifth game with a 30-27 win in the fourth stanza. But the Blazers closed it out, 15-13.
Fernanda Domingos added 20 kills for UAB, which improves to 18-9 overall, 5-6 in Conference USA. With the loss, Tulane falls to fifth in the Conference, but can move into a tie with third-place Memphis (22-5, 8-3 C-USA) with a win on Sunday. "Like with every bump in the road this season, we'll bounce back. We must. We have a very formidable opponent on Sunday in the Memphis Tigers," Kritza added.
Memphis visits Fogelman Arena on Sunday a 1 p.m. to take on the Green Wave. Live stats will be available via Gametracker at TulaneGreenWave.com. Individual tickets for the 2006 volleyball season are $6 for adults and $4 for youth, and can be purchased at Fogelman Arena on game day.
