New Orleans, La. - Hello Green Wave Fans!
These last two weekends have been rough for all of us. As a team, we have played hard, but could come up with the big hit or make the perfect pitch when we needed to. However, it is still early in the season and as a team we are still very confident that we will pull it all together.
We are all staying positive and like the old saying goes: A season is not a sprint, but rather a marathon. A perfect example of this is Cal State Fullerton in 2004. They were 14-16 through thirty games and ended up winning the national championship. Our team is very young right now, but I truly believe that we have the talent to be playing late in June.
Losing three games in the last two weekends at home has really put a sour taste in our mouths, and we will use those losses to our advantage and build from them. The one thing about this team is that we never panic or quit. When tension starts building there are always one or two guys who quickly lighten the mood by bringing in some funny pictures that always get a good laugh from the team.
After last weekend's loss to Pepperdine, Matt Goebel brought in a picture making fun of me. The guys always give me a hard time about my large head, so he thought it would be funny to put my head on Mount Rushmore and post a picture of it in the clubhouse.
Then after Mark Hamilton had a rough night this past Friday, I figured I would make a picture of him to lighten him up. He likes to have a little McDonalds before every game, so I took his face and put it in the Hamburglar's picture. Sure enough he goes 3-4 on Sunday with two clutch RBI doubles. As long as we stay loose, play hard and have fun doing it, we will come out on top.
This week will be another good test for us facing LSU on Tuesday, and Oral Roberts this weekend. It will be four games against two very good baseball clubs. I hope to see you guys not only this upcoming weekend, but also up the river at the "Box" against LSU.
Roll Wave,
Billy
