NEW ORLEANS, La. - Mandeville High standout Rachel Lindelow has signed a National Letter of Intent to play volleyball at Tulane University, Green Wave head coach Liz Kritza announced Wednesday.
Lindelow is a four-time, first-team all-district selection, was named first-team all-state her final three prep seasons and helped lead Mandeville to state championship games in each of the past two seasons. As a senior, she claimed Large Schools Player of the Year honors from the Louisiana Volleyball Coaches Association. A setter and outside hitter as a prepster, she is expected to challenge for playing time at either setter or right-side hitter as a true freshman in 2006.
"We are very excited to welcome Rachel to the Green Wave family," Kritza said. "It's always exciting when you can get a local player, and I think Rachel will provide a positive impact from day one. She comes from a very successful high school program at Mandeville, she has been successful both on the court and in the classroom, and I look forward to having the chance to watch her continued development over the next four years."
As a senior, Lindelow helped Mandeville High go 30-2 and win the state title where she was named MVP of the state tournament. In addition, she was Mandeville High's nominee for the Wendy's High School Heisman and was selected to play in the 2006 Louisiana High School Coaches Association All-Star Game as a member of the West squad on July 19 in Baton Rouge.
She claimed first-team all-metro honors as a sophomore, junior and senior. Lindelow was also named the Time's Picayune's St. Tammany Parish Volleyball Player of the Year as a sophomore and junior, and claimed Female Athlete of the Year recognition at Mandeville High as a sophomore.
Lindelow began her prep career as an eighth-grader at St. Scholastica Academy where she played for two seasons before moving to Mandeville where she played for head coach Jody Walker. She also lettered in soccer during her two seasons at St. Scholastica, and played baseketball as a sophomore at Mandeville.
Lindelow also achieved success at the club level, claiming all-tournament honors at the AAU Junior Nationals in 2003, helping the Bayou Region Youth National Team claim the Volleyclassic championship in 2004, and was a member of the Volleyball Institute of America 18's National Club in 2005.
Off the court, Lindelow is a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Big Brother/Big Sister, M-Club (Mandeville's Varsity Club) and High School Senate. She also earned Beta Honor Roll recognition each of the last three years.
Lindelow will join a young, but experienced Tulane club that features seven returning players, including 2005 AVCA honorable-mention All-American and Midwest Region Freshman of the Year Sara Radosevic and 2005 Conference USA All-Freshman Team honoree Luna Rebrovic.
Last season, the Green Wave went through an up and down season that was partially interrupted by Hurricane Katrina. Despite going 3-14 during the regular season, Tulane put it all together in the Conference USA Tournament to defeat host Rice and Tulsa to advance to the tourney semifinals for the first time since 1997.
