2010 Indoor & Outdoor Schedule
NEW ORLEANS - Tulane director of track & field Eric Peterson announced the Green Wave's indoor and outdoor schedules Monday, with five indoor meets before the Conference USA Championship, followed by an 11-meet outdoor season, including the C-USA Championship and NCAA Regional and National Championships.
Tulane will take part in 12 meets in the gulf region, with national caliber meets at the Drake Relays in Des Moines, the Sykes & Sabock Challenge at Penn State and the NCAA Regional Outdoor Championships in Greensboro, N.C.
"I think this schedule gives all of our team members a wonderful opportunity to reach her or his full potential," Peterson said. "Our team is working extremely hard at this time as we complete our fall and early winter preparation. We are all excited to begin the competitive phase of our season January 15 in Houston."
Tulane opens the indoor campaign on Jan. 15 at the Leonard Hilton Memorial at Bill Yeowman Field House at the University of Houston. On Jan. 22, Tulane visits LSU for the Purple Tiger Invite at Maddox Fieldhouse.
After a week off, the Green Wave will head to University Park to compete in Penn State's Sykes & Sabock Challenge on Feb. 5-6. The following week, The Green Wave will take on the field at the Tyson Invite in Fayetteville, Ark. on Feb. 12-13 at the Randal Tyson Track Complex.
"We have circled indoor meets, Penn State and the Tyson Invitational as opportunities to expose our top athletes to a national level of competition as we prepare for the Conference USA Championships," Peterson continued.
Tulane returns to Baton Rouge for the LSU Twilight on Feb. 19, leading up to the Conference USA Indoor Track & Field Championship on Feb. 26-27 in Houston at Yeowman Fieldhouse.
The Green Wave will have two weeks off before the NCAA Indoor Championships in Fayetteville on March 11-12.
The outdoor season opens on March 19-20 at the Louisiana Classics in Lafayette. On March 27, Tulane takes on South Alabama and Louisiana-Lafayette in Mobile.
"I'm very excited for our team to participate in a Triangular scored meet at South Alabama early in the outdoor season to strengthen the competitive spirit of our program," Peterson commented.
The Green Wave visit Auburn for the Tiger Classic on April 2-3 before visiting Tallahassee, Florida on April 9-10 for the Seminole Invite. Tulane makes another trip to Baton Rouge for the LSU Alumni Gold on April 16-17.
Tulane will split the squad the following week, with the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa on April 22-24 and the Golden Eagle Classic in Hattiesburg on April 24.
"April is a critical month of competition where all of our athletes will begin to sharpen their competitive skills as we test them against some of the finest athletes in the nation at meets like the Auburn Classic, Seminole Invitational, LSU Alumni Gold and Drake Relays," said Peterson.
The Green Wave will have a three-week break before the Conference USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Orlando, Florida, hosted by UCF on May 12-15.
On May 28-29, the Green Wave will take part in the NCAA East Regional in Greensboro, N.C., prior to the NCAA National Championships on June 9-12 and the U.S. Track & Field Championships June 23-27 in Des Moines.
