LOUISVILLE - LOUISVILLE - Five Tulane student-athletes from the Green Wave track & field team will be in action Friday as the NCAA Mideast Regional Championships begin in Louisville, Ky. The Green Wave are entered in seven events, as Olivia Kizzee qualified for the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes.
School record holder Rebecca Coady will take on the field in the 3000-meter steeplechase. Coady set Tulane's all-time best mark of 11:02 time at the Florida Relays on April 3, and topped that mark with a 10:49 at the Cole-Lancon Invitational.
Freshman Ana Ruzevic turned in regional qualifying marks in five of eight meets in the javelin. Her season best distance of 48.35 meters came at the Ole Miss Invitational. She posted five finishes in the top three, including runner-up at Ole Miss, the Florida Relays and the Cole-Lancon Invitational.
Senior Katarina Busljeta is entered in both the discus and the hammer throw. The Tulane record holder in the hammer throw, Busljeta's top mark of 54.24 came at the Cole-Lancon Twilight in Lafayette, La. It was the fifth time she set a new Tulane record in the event. Busljeta also won the collegiate division of the hammer at the Penn Relays, with a then-school record throw of 51.93.
Olivia Kizzee qualified in both the 100 meter dash and 200 meter dash. She posted a season-best 100-meter time of 11.49 at the Conference USA Championships, finishing as the C-USA runner up. Her time of 23.64 at the C-USA Championship was also good for second place in the 200, with a personal best time.
Zandria DeBowles was the top collegian in the 400-meter at the LSU Relays. The sophomore from Marietta, Georgia, turned in a 1:00.56 in the 400-meter hurdles finals after posting a 1:00.51 in the prelims. He top mark of 59.73 came at the LSU Alumni Gold.
