LOUISVILLE - Tulane junior Olivia Kizzee posted a personal best time of 23.49 in the 200-meter, finishing fifth at the NCAA Mideast Regional and automatically qualified for the NCAA Championships. She also placed sixth in the 100-meter with a time of 11.58.
"I'm happy for Olivia as well as the program," head coach Heather Van Norman said. "She turned in a great performance in the 200 and I'm proud of her for carrying on our tradition of excellent sprinters here at Tulane."
Kizzee may qualify in the 100-meter dash as well. Her time from the Conference USA Championships, 11.46, may qualify her for an at-large selection to the field at the NCAA Championships, pending the results of the other NCAA regionals.
Freshman Ana Ruzevic finished 14th in the javelin, posting a distance of 42.43 meters. Rebecca Coady placed 18th in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 11:02.75.
"We will take a few days to regroup and then we have to transfer our thoughts towards the NCAA championship," Van Norman added. "Kizzee has stayed focused throughout the year to achieve her goals. We have to fine tune a few things and get ready for the big dance."
The NCAA championships are June 10-13 in Fayetteville, Ark.
