HOUSTON - The Green Wave wrapped its first intercollegiate tennis event in four years as the 52nd Rice Fall Invitational wrapped up Sunday. Tulane picked up another four victories as Adam Bernstein and Coby Kramer-Golinkoff picked up singles wins and Tulane doubles tandems won two matches as well.
Kramer-Golinkoff, a freshman, topped SMU's Mason Harrell, 6-2, 6-3 in Flight C singles. Tulane freshmen Adam Bernstein and Joe Young squared off in Flight B, with Bernstein taking a 6-3, 2-6, 1-0 (10-8) decision.
"I'm really pleased with the way we competed this weekend," head coach Mark Booras said. "We came across a lot of tough opponents and always kept ourselves in each match, and gave ourselves a chance to win."
In Flight A, freshman Rod Rappaccioli fell to Michael Nusslein of LSU, 7-6, 6-3, while sophomore Shaye Wali lost to Rice's Isamu Tachiana, 7-6, 3-6, 1-0 (10-8). Freshman Etham Frenkel fell to LSU's Roger Anderson by a score of 4-6, 7-6, 1-0 (10-8) in Flight D.
In doubles, Tulane tandems met up in Flight A, as Wali and Rappaccioli defeated Bernstein and Youg, 8-6. Frenkel and Kramer-Golinkoff teamed up to down LSU's Cody Loup and James Turbervill, 9-8, with the tie-breaking set going 7-4 for the Wave.
"This was a great starting point for our guys," Booras surmised. "We look forward to building on this experience."
The Green Wave are back in action on Sept. 25-27 at the Southern Miss Invitational.
