NEW ORLEANS - The Tulane men's tennis program continues its fall slate this weekend at the Southern Miss Invitational. Play opens Friday at the new Southern Miss Tennis Courts in Hattiesburg, Miss. The Green Wave will face a pair of C-USA opponents in Southern Miss and UAB, as well as regional foe UNO.
The Green Wave, back in competition after a three-year hiatus, completed their first meet since 2005 two weeks ago at the 52nd Rice Fall Invitational.
"We had a lot of great energy and excitement about getting back on the court at Rice," head coach Mark Booras said. "Now we want to build on some of those experiences. To be successful at Southern Miss, the most important thing is giving yourselves the opportunity to compete. With four matches, competing all day, the biggest thing is focus and concentration."
Action gets underway at 8:30 a.m. on Friday, with the Green Wave taking on Southern Miss in singles action. Tulane faces UAB at 1 p.m. prior to doubles competition. On Saturday, the Wave will meet UNO in singles competition at 1 p.m.
This weekend's lineups will be a blind draw announced to the coaches Thursday evening. Tulane is expected to slot sophomore Shaye Wali into its No. 1 position. Wali posted a 1-2 mark in the season's first event at Rice in the tournament's Flight A draw.
Freshman Joe Young, who went 1-2 in Flight B at Rice, will line up at No. 2 singles, while freshman Rod Rappaccioli is expected to compete in the third position. Rappaccioli sports a 2-1 mark after falling in the consolation bracket of Flight A at Rice.
Adam Bernstein leads Tulane with a 2-1 record, as he won the Flight B consolation bracket at Rice. The freshman is slated to line up at No. 5 singles.
Tulane will send out Coby Kramer-Golinkoff at No. 4, after the freshman posted a 1-2 mark at Rice in the Flight C draw. Freshman Etham Frenkel, 1-2 in Flight D at Rice, will fill the No. 6 spot, while freshman Chris Somers will make his Tulane debut in the No. 7 position.
The Green Wave pairs will first meet UNO on Friday at 4 p.m. Doubles action continues Saturday with the Wave meeting Southern Miss at 9 a.m. and UAB at 10:30. Booras' pairs for the double competition will be first-time pairings, as Young and Rappaccioli team up for No. 1 doubles, Wali and Kramer-Golinkoff will be the No. 2 tandem, and Bernstein pairs with Frenkel at No. 3.
Following the Southern Miss Invitational, Tulane will be back in action October 2-7 and the ITA All-American Pre-Qualifying tournament in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
