Tulane Green Wave at Southern Miss

Looking at the Green Wave
Tulane will look to continue their solid play at Southern Miss on Wednesday, after going 1-1 last weekend. A victory over UTEP in three sets snapped a five-match skid, but the Green Wave dropped a tough five-setter on Sunday to UCF.
Milica Jovic has been the go-to hitter for the Olive and Blue in Conference USA play, churning out 108 kills in 39 sets played in eight league contests. Mel Mandelbaum has been distributing the ball to five main hitters in C-USA play, handing out 320 assists, with the majority of her assists going to Jovic, Izabela Grot (87 kills), Cori Martone (68), Lindsey Shepard (52) and Azarri Badawi (44).
Senior Amaris Genemaras leads the team with 85 digs in conference play, an average of 2.93 digs per-set. Along with Genemaras, Mandelbaum and Martone are also contributing on the defensive end. Mandelbaum has 80 digs (2.76 dps) and Martone is chipping in 2.75 digs per-set, with 77 digs in 28 sets.
Tulane enters this season's first meeting with a 43-7 overall mark versus Southern Miss in the all-time series. In the last ten meetings, the Olive and Blue are 8-2 overall, with their losses coming in 2003 and 2009.
Scouting the Eagles
Southern Miss has won two straight, following a four-match losing streak, and are 7-2 on their home floor this season. Both of their home losses have come in Conference USA play, dropping a 3-1 decision to Rice and falling 3-0 to Tulsa.
Ashley Mell leads the team with a 4.56 kills per-set average and ranks second in Conference USA with 333 kills, while Halie Ecker is eighth overall in the conference with 244 kills. Mell also ranks second on the team in digs with 215, sitting behind libero Lisa Knecht's 349. Kelsea Seymore ranks second in C-USA with 820 assists and has chipped in 176 digs.
