TULSA, Okla. - Tulane sophomore tennis player Idan Mark advanced into the second round of the 2010 D'Novo/ITA All-American Championships qualifying singles play on Monday afternoon at the University of Tulsa' Case Tennis Center.
"I was impressed with how Idan was able to change his tactics to break down his opponent today and stick to the game plan through the rest of the match," Tulane head coach Mark Booras said.
Mark came from behind to defeat Stanford's Denis Lin, the 125th ranked player in the nation by the ITA, in three sets.
"Idan did a great job of coming from behind to beat a very solid player today," Booras added. "Dennis was one of the top ranked U.S. recruits last year and has a year of collegiate experience under his belt playing for Stanford, a team who finished in the top 7 last year."
The Green Wave first-year player dropped the first set 6-3, but rallied in the second set to win 7-6 (4) in the tie break. Mark then took control of the match and sailed to a 6-1 victory in the third set to advance.
"I started off slowly today but was able to work my way into the match," Mark said. "Coach always tells us to try to find a way, so I did. I tried everything. Finally I found something that worked. I'm looking forward to coming back tomorrow and competing with all I have for Tulane."
Mark will face Sacramento State's Kiryl Harbatsiuk, the 75th ranked player in the nation by the ITA, in the second round on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. CST. Harbatsuik got past Ohio State's Steven Williams, 6-1, 6-3, to advance.
